Step by Step walkthrough 1. Click “Get Started” This will take you to the sign up page. Here you can select the plan you would like. Free, Go Forth, or Thrive. We recommend Thrive, as it gives your ministry the most functionality and supports the cause of Free Church Websites. 2. Choose and click “Select Plan” This will take you to the Template Selection Page. Here you can browse available templates and choose which one you think best fits your needs. Remember that this IS customizable, so you can switch out colors easily. 3. Click “View Template” to take a peek and then click “select” on your favorite one. 4. Enter your Site Title and URL for your site. If your church’s name is “Buffalo City Church” then your Site title would be “Buffalo City Church” and your URL would be “buffalocitychurch” 5. Enter a username, email address and password for your site. This will be what you use to login to the back end of your website. We recommend that you make a secure password. 6. Click the “Terms of Service” link to see our Statement of Faith. We require all subscribers to agree to the Statement of Faith in order to use our service. 7. Enter your credit or debit card information. You won’t be charged until after your 7 day free trial. Free Users have the opportunity to skip this step. 8. Viola! Your site is created! (Possible in 30 seconds!) Yes, it is possible to sign up, customize your website, edit pages etc. from a smart phone browser. However, it is advised that you do your website setup and any major maintenance on a computer. Because the screen size on a phone is so small it is difficult to use the page editor. Once your site is all set to how you like it, say you want to go in and change the wording of a certain text block. Using a phone for this would be ok. You can choose our free plan and set up a website absolutely free. We are the only church website builder that we know of that offers this. The free plan costs you nothing, but is limited to one page, one user, etc. We recommend the “Thrive” plan. This allows you to create unlimited pages and has features like Sermons, Events, Online Giving and eCommerce! At only $29 per month, this is virtually free. Yes! From your account dashboard you can walk through the steps to do this. Here are a few things you want to do to get started! We highly recommend watching this video before you start – How to Set Up With Free Church Websites 1. Choose a template that fits your needs the best* Genesis – A versatile, modern theme with a bold live text homepage. Bright and welcoming. Community – A creative, innovative theme with a video header. Easy to use, clean and modern. Spark – A beautiful, bold theme with a dark background. Easy to use, simplistic and modern. Free Gospel – An industry standard one page theme. designed for the free plan. WARNING – If you choose to switch templates any changes you have made will be lost. We only recommend switching templates if you are yet to put any content in. 2. Insert your church’s logo You’ll go to the customize tab and choose site identity. Here you can upload a logo. We recommend a white/light version and a black/dark version with a transparent background. This will look best! 3. Start to put your information in Go into the pages tab. Click “homepage” this will take you to an editing pane. Click on any text and you can change it to whatever you like. After making changes you can click “Preview” in the top right hand corner. When you are happy with it, press “Update” and the changes will go live to your website. 4. Switch out some images In the same editing pane, click on an image you want to change. Click the pencil icon and it will take you to your media section. Here you can upload the image you want to put in there. You can drag and drop OR select the file from your computer. Once you have the picture you want, click select and it will go in the place of the current picture. Remember to click “Preview” to see how it will look and then “update” to make it live! (For the “Visual portfolio” sections, click “edit layout” and it will take you to a pane that you can put different pictures in.) 5. Menus* Go to the “menus” tab to decide what is in your navigation menu at the top of your homepage. Once you play around with it for a while, you should get the hang of it. If there’s one thing we know about technology, it can be very frustrating at times! It doesn’t always go to plan. *No applicable for the Free Plan Login at: {your site url}/login example: If your site title is love bible church, your login URL would be: https://lovebiblechurch.freechurchwebsites.com/login Once you choose a template its best to stick with it. You can always change your mind and pick a different one, but all the content will have to be filled in again into the new template. So if you are early on and haven’t changed much, go for it! You may want to save all of your content in a folder so that should you decide to switch it will be easier to do. The pictures that come to you with the template are place-holder images. They are intended to give you an idea of the type of picture you could use in that place. We recommend that you swap them out with high quality images of your own that show the uniqueness of your ministry and give your site its own flair. However, all of the place-holder images are royalty free and you can use or discard them as you please. You can keep or discard what you like but this is not recommended. Google and other search engines a looking for wording that is specific to you. If you keep lots of the wording the same, your site will seem vague and you will not show up well on Search Engines. We wrote in content to give you an idea of what you could write in that block. You can use any blocks for any purpose you choose. This is YOUR website, we’re just getting you kick-started!
